Scholarship Fund Goals, Support, and Outreach Updates
The aim of the scholarship fund is to concretize several of the scholarship streams that the Foundation currently provides using annual funds. The Foundation will regularly contribute to the initial investment so that the amount of scholarship funding continues to grow over time. As a result, although the first campaign has concluded, individuals may continue to visit the donation page to contribute when it best suits them.
The campaign itself was managed by two new volunteers at the Foundation, Chelsea Bennington and M.A. Reynolds, who tirelessly ensured that the materials were ready, the backend technology was working properly, and that individuals had a smooth donation process. The Foundation is also extremely grateful for all its volunteers who dedicated time and energy into spreading the word on the Foundation’s social media and their own personal tools. We were very pleased with both the reach and the response.
DOUGLAS EDUCATION CENTER
The GARF is committed to helping the next generation of independent filmmakers. In 2016, George A. Romero worked with the Douglas Education Center in Monessen, Pennsylvania, to re-launch its filmmaking program. The GARF continues to honor George's vision by raising funds for students who wish to participate in the program. STEELTOWN ENTERTAINMENT PROJECT
Funding is often a filmmaker’s biggest obstacle. Fundraising can burden artists and distract them from their projects. The GARF is pleased to partner with Steeltown to help independent filmmakers access new funding opportunities.
The George A Romero Fellowship in partnership with Salem Horror Fest
The George A. Romero Foundation is excited to partner with the Salem Horror Fest as part of our commitment to support a new generation of filmmakers and artists inspired by George’s legacy. Salem’s history and reputation as a Halloween town makes the perfect backdrop for new, scary stories with a social theme.
HORROR STUDIES COLLECTION
The GARF is excited to contribute the George A. Romero Archival Collection to the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh Library System, and the great city of Pittsburgh.
Screams in a Box
The GARF is thrilled to be sponsoring 15 students/teams for the 2021 Screams in a Box Film Competition.
